We are seeking a professional with a strong Medical 'Laboratory' Coding (Medicare, Medicaid & Commercial) and Reimbursement background. This is a fast-paced, continually changing environment. This candidate needs to be both independent as well as a team player.

A Medical Coder is responsible for reviewing a patient’s medical records after a visit and translating the information into codes that insurers use to process claims from patients. The main duty of a Medical Coder is assigning codes to medical procedures and diagnoses.

Other duties and responsibilities of a Medical Coder include:

  • Making sure that codes are assigned correctly and sequenced appropriately as per government and insurance regulations
  • Complying with medical coding guidelines and policies
  • Receiving and reviewing patients’ charts and documents for verification and accuracy
  • Following up and clarifying any information that is not clear to other staff members
  • Collecting information made by the Physician from different sources to prepare monthly reports
  • Implementing strategic procedures and choosing strategies and evaluation methods that provide correct results
  • Medicare, Medicaid and Commercial knowledge on billing and appeal techniques
  • Claim and appeal submissions via calls, portal lookups, and application processes
  • Research changes and updates to insurance plan-specific claim and appeal processes and requirements
  • Knowledge and understanding of the healthcare industry
  • Additional duties to be assigned, as needed


  • Bachelors preferred but not required
  • Associates Healthcare, Business Administration or related discipline required; direct billing/follow up experience can substitute for degree requirement
  • Current AAPC certification or equivalent

Preferred Experience

  • 3+ years medical coding experience, required
  • Experience with billing guidelines related to proprietary lab services and basic medical terminology

Compensation: $22.00/hour
