SUMMARY:

The Medical Billing Coder is a supportive position to the Billing Department, providing administrative and supportive services to the Billing Department, Providers, staff, and patients.  This position reports to the Billing Supervisor.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

·         Reads and analyzes patient records.

·         Determines the correct codes for patient records.

·         Uses codes to bill insurance providers

·         Answer calls in the Billing Department, assisting staff as well as patients.

·         Maintains patient confidentiality and information security.

·         Consistently demonstrates internal and external quality customer service standards to all that request assistance, responding in a professional manner.

·         Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

Hearing:           Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.

Speaking:         Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.

Vision:             Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.

Other:              Requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting up to 10 pounds, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be a certified medical billing coder with at least a high school education and possess basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.  Prior billing experience is a plus.
