Under the supervision of the Director of Billing, the Certified Professional Coder is responsible for appropriately coding to ensure accurate and compliant billing for office and hospital procedures, reviews patient charts,  determines appropriate diagnosis, CPT code(s) for surgical procedure(s) performed assigning the proper modifiers


  • Performs coding activities to ensure successful processing and payment of claims for  multiple locations. 

  • Reviews and analyzes patient medical charts and documentation for accuracy and reports missing or incomplete documentation timely 

  • Use of available automated systems, code correct and/or other coding tools to ensure accurate coding

  • Validates documentation and works with the physicians to assure proper coding and educates the medical staff regarding coding issues. 

  • Performs audits on provider’s schedule to ensure all services are coded batched and ready to submit to payer 

  • Serves as a point of contact for coding related questions, issues, and projects. 

  • Follows established coding guidelines and legal requirements to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. 

  • May Follow up on aged accounts receivable with resolution

Qualifications, Knowledge and Ability:

  • Demonstrated eligibility for employment in the United States.

  • CPC License/certification, required  

  • 2- years successful coding experience   

  • Knowledge of surgical coding, anesthesia, evaluation & management a plus 

  • Knowledge of eClinicalWorks (ECW), preferred 

  • Thorough knowledge of Medicare coding and billing rules and regulations

  • Thorough understanding of NCCI, ICD-10-CM, CPT Modifiers 

  • Proficient in G-suite, Google Docs (excel, word) 

  • Ability to relate and work effectively with others.

  • Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own growth and advancements. 

  • Demonstrated computer skills in utilizing coding software databases and other functions.

  • Ability to use office machines and telephone systems.
