Position Summary
MEDICAL
CODER
Radiation Oncology Care at
Meridian Park is a freestanding Radiation Oncology treatment facility providing
academic center level care to cancer patients in a community setting.
We are seeking a motivated and
experienced Medical Coder to join our revenue cycle team. You would be
responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and applying the correct
coding and modifiers to highly specialized services in radiation oncology. This
position ensures that the documentation supports the levels or types of service
billed, ensures the documentation is in compliance with Medicare/Medicaid
billing regulations, and provider documentation guidelines, CPT documentation
and CMS coding guidelines. As this position requires consulting with other
staff and physicians, strong communication skills are an absolute must. The
individual must be a certified medical coder with 5 years of experience,
preferably with some chart and code auditing in previous positions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for meeting
performance standards set for accurate and timely submission of charges and
coding for professional and facility services rendered at the clinic. Working in collaboration with clinical staff
and billing department, provide technical expertise regarding a broad range of
third party payer and reimbursement issues. Anticipates critical workload times
to organize time to deal with peak volume periods efficiently. Handles multiple
tasks simultaneously in a confident and proficient manner performing the
following duties as necessary including, but not limited to:
· Ensures captured charges and
billings accurately reflect the medical record according to ICD-10, CPT and CMS
guidelines.
· Performs paper and EMR chart
audits.
· Reviews, reports, researches
and resolves issues pertaining to insurance denials.
· Works with co-workers to
resolve insurance payment and billing errors.
· Answers patient payment,
billing and insurance questions and resolves complaints.
· Adheres to confidentiality, state,
federal and HIPPA laws and guidelines with regard to patient records.
· Performs other duties as
requested and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma with at
least five (5) years of billing and coding experience
· CPC certification is required
· Must posses a broad knowledge
of managed care and HMO policies and procedures and Medicare benefits, strong
knowledge of current versions of ICD10, CPT and CMS.
· Proficiency with Word
processing and Excel spreadsheets
· ROCC certification is preferred
