Position Overview:

The Medical Coding Specialist plays a key role on the Landmark Health team by ensuring the accuracy, integrity, quality and compliance of coded patient data.  Coding specialists build trust with our dedicated providers by identifying opportunities for documentation and coding quality improvement and providing our unique expertise to the care team.


What you'll be doing:

  • Onboarding new providers with education in documentation best practices.
  • Perform day to day coding for new providers, mentoring and training them until proficiency is sufficient to transfer provider’s encounters to a dedicated coding team.
  • Collaborate with General Managers and Medical Directors to formulate appropriate coding and documentation support for individual providers, treatment teams and regions within the company.
  • Utilize training modules and materials to present during formal Provider education sessions and initiate both group and one on one training and make recommendations for additional areas of training.
  • Participate in weekly market Interdisciplinary Team meetings (IDT) to give input to the clinical team regarding coding and Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) for individual patient charts.
  • Continually evaluate data for compliance with all applicable state and federal guidelines and internal Landmark policies and procedures.
  • Audit individual encounters and coded data to determine additional opportunities for education, training and documentation improvement for both individual and groups of providers
  • Report individual provider and market level coding and documentation status and performance to the coding and clinical leadership teams.


  • Coding Credential – at least one of the following: CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA
  • At least 1-year outpatient coding experience
  • Ability for occasional travel up to 30%

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2+ year experience coding ICD.10 for HCC utilization.
  • Familiarity with Medicare Risk Adjustment.
  • Experience working with providers for Clinical Documentation Improvement.
