Position Summary:

Responsible for surgery coding, batching, charge entry and balancing of the daily office encounters.  This includes data entry in the Allscripts practice management system, applying appropriate modifiers and following global procedure coding edits and surgery coding from operative reports.  There may be other given tasks as needed on a daily basis. The job requires exceptional attention to detail, the ability to work independently and in a team environment, and a positive attitude.

  • Code surgical cases from physician’s operative notes
  • Entry of charges for daily office encounter (charge) forms turned in from the reception desk.
  • Apply modifiers and ICD-10 codes as appropriate with diagnosis reports from the medical record (NextGen)
  • Make contact with clinical staff for any clarifications or missing information.
  • Watch for system edits to file clean claims

·         Completes work in a timely manner to facilitate timely claims filing.

  • Maintains continuity of work operations by communicating irregularities, and continuing needs
  • Maintains patient confidence by keeping patient records information confidential

Skills & Qualifications:

·         Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferably physician office

·         Preferred:

o   Coding/billing experience, Orthopedics a plus

o   CPT and ICD-10 knowledge, certification preferred

o   Strong organization skills and attention to detail and ability to multi task

o   Positive attitude and capacity to deal with difficult situations in a professional manner

o   Solid computer keyboard skills

o   Allscripts (billing system) and NextGen (EHR) experience a plus
