Job Purpose: The Certified Professional Coder is responsible for ensuring all procedures provided by the healthcare professional are accurate and submitted for billing. Responsibilities: • Locate and match medical services and their codes using billing and coding manuals • Provide timely and accurate data to ensure reimbursement for patient services • Maintain highest level of confidentiality of medical information • Inform management on area’s physician can improve regarding documentation, clarification, and coding concerns • Maintain credentials and keep updated on coding changes • Provide excellent customer service (both internally and externally) • Submit claims for BCBS on Thursday before 12pm • Inform management on issues regarding productivity • Missed visits report • Preliminary reports • Create close of month information and submit to management for review • Stay up to date with claims review • Track and relay information regarding E/M levels • Multi-specialty coding NOTE: These statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work involved for this job. Strongly prefer that an individual be credentialed as a CPC or CCS. Prefer coding experience in a medically relevant setting. Two to three years of related coding experience plus Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification may be substituted for required education. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Must be detail oriented to ensure accuracy of claims • Must be able to work under stress with limited time constraints and with frequent interruptions • Must be proficient in ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding systems
