NYC Health + Hospitals is seeking experienced Medical Record Specialist/Medical Record Coders for junior and associate level roles in hospitals located throughout New York City.
Medical Record Specialist Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or its educational equivalent; and,
a) Completion of a medical record technology program approved by the American Health Information Management Association; or,
b) A certificate issued upon completion of the Independent Study Program, or the Correspondence Course for Medical Record Personnel, from the American Health Information Management Association; or,
c) Two years of satisfactory, full-time experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a recognized hospital or health care institution.
Associate Medical Record Specialist Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor's Degree in a Health Information Administration (HIA) or Health Information Technology (HIT) program accredited by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and six (6) months experience in coding and abstracting medical records; or
2. High School diploma or its educational equivalent; and
a) Completion of a coding, medical record technology or health information technology program approved by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and one (1) year of experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a recognized hospital or health care organization, six (6) months of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
b) Possession of a valid certificate as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and one (1) year of experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a recognized hospital or health care organization, six ( 6) months of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
c) Three (3) years of satisfactory experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a recognized hospital or health care organization, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
