Schedule: 40 hrs per wk,
8:00am - 4:30pm with a 30 minute unpaid meal break
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
· Performs diversified,
highly technical coding of medical records for reimbursement, research and
administrative purposes
· Reviews and interprets
medical records and abstracts pertinent information
· Maintains files of
medical records such as daily admissions and discharges, daily census, case
histories, results of diagnostic tests, signed releases of information, medical
summaries and abstracts
· Inspects reports and
records for omissions and errors
· Prepares statistical
reports
· Performs related duties
as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
· Knowledge of complex,
highly technical medical coding principles and techniques
· Knowledge of medical
terminology and human anatomy and physiology
· Knowledge or and ability
to use the ICD-10 CM and CPT 4 code books
· Ability to maintain
medical records and prepare reports.
· Demonstrated oral and
written communication skills; interpersonal skills
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience:
· Four (4) years of clinical
office experience which provided exposure to medical records.
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED:
· Completion of formal
Records Administrator, Accredited Records Technician or Certified Coding
Specialist programs may be substituted for the general experience.
SPECIAL EXPERIENCE:
· One (1) year of the
General Experience must have been performing complex medical records coding.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Minimum of three (3)
years of orthopedic surgery coding experience
· Experience in a medical
office practice
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
· Neurosurgery and general surgery coding experience
· Certified Professional
Coder (CPC), RHIT, COC, CCS-P certifications
· Epic experience
· Knowledge of CCI edits,
Encoder pro experience
