Neurosurgery/Spine Remote Coder The neurosurgery/spine coder is responsible for ensuring timely, accurate and compliant coding. This position provides daily, weekly and monthly reports to executive team and clients/physicians. A minimum of 3 years’ experience required in neurosurgery/spine coding. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to): 1. Provide training and on-going education for other coders and physicians as needed 2. Codes against the OP report and verifies all coding is accurate 3. Good communication skills with physicians and upper level management on coding issues 4. Works with billers as needed for better understanding of coding to get claims paid on back end 5. Audit billing work (including CPT, ICD-10, ASA, HCPCS codes). REPORTING TO THIS POSITION: Director of Operations JOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): • Current CPC Certification • Ability to prioritize work • In-depth knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, and HCPCS coding • In-depth knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Workers Compensation guidelines and billing standards for coding • Ability to work effectively with staff, physicians, and external customers • Must have strong keyboard skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint • Must have a pleasant disposition and high tolerance level for diverse views and opinions • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision • Membership and active participation in professional organizations EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:. • Professional Coding Certification (i.e. CPC, CMC or CCSP) required. • Three to five year’s coding experience in neurosurgery/spine required WORKING CONDITIONS (environment and safety): • Work performed in remote setting • Involves frequent contact with professional staff • Work may be stressful at times/ 24 hour turn-around required on coding
