Part-Time Medical
Biller/Accountant – LSA Family Health Service
LSA is seeking a part-time
Medical Biller/Accountant to work approximately three days per week.
The part-time Medical Biller/Accountant will report to our Director of Finance.
This position will also work closely with our Staff Accountant, as well as,
with our Director of Patient Services of our Certified Home Health Agency
(CHHA), on matters related to billing.

in 1958 by The Little Sisters of the Assumption. We are a neighborhood-based organization
located in East Harlem and our priority is helping families meet their
most fundamental needs: food, clothing, healthcare and a safe home.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Follows-up
on Medicare, Medicaid, managed care and commercial insurances.
- Reviews
remittances and EOB's to ensure the payment is according to the fee schedule
and contracted rates.
- Working
directly with the insurance company, healthcare provider to get a claim
processed and paid.
- Reviewing
and appealing unpaid and denied claims.
- Verifying
patients’ insurance coverage.
- Handling
collections on unpaid accounts.
- Reviews
and, as necessary, corrects data entry and billing errors prior to
transmission.
- HMO,
Medicare & Medicaid Billing.
- Ensures
billing process is completed timely and accurately.
- Cash
posting.
- Stays
informed of changes in billing procedures that impact the filing of claims.
- Communicates
appropriate information to supervisors and co-workers in a timely and
accurate manner.
Qualifications
·
Associate’s Degree required. Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or
business preferred.

Experience in home care or out-patient billing.
·
Requires knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and third party
regulations, billing systems and proficiency with personal computers.
·
Experience with DDE (Directed Date Entry).
- Knowledge of EMEDNY,
MD online and other electronic billing portals.
- Familiarity with the
following specific reporting: Medicare Credit Balance Report, Medicaid
Certification Statement, Electronic or PDF Remittance advice request, monthly
Billing report, yearly billing report for Auditors, Medicare Cost Report.
- Candidates
should also be detail-oriented, team players and have a positive attitude.
- Spanish
fluency a plus.
