Patient Accounts Supervisor, Coding/Charge Entry

 

This position is responsible for ensuring that the workload in the Professional Billing Department is flowing through the system in a timely and accurate manner.  This includes coordinating activities; provide statistical data and communicating with various departments. The supervisor initiates appropriate steps to resolve departmental, interdepartmental, coding compliance and payer issues that affect the accounts receivable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and trains staff assigned to the work unit. Works with the manager in the hiring, terminating, and counseling of staff.
  • Collects and monitors employee’s productivity and quality and prepares data as required.
  • Evaluates the performance of assigned staff and completes the Performance Appraisal form.
  • Documents and provides timely feedback regarding concerns received about staff’s behavior or job performance.
  • Implements and enforces the department’s policies and procedures.
  • Guides the department to meet the set goals and standards.
  • Schedule and conduct monthly team meetings.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

 

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • CPC or CCS-P coding certification required.

Required Experience:

  • Three to five years’ experience in physician billing and insurance reimbursement required.
  • Knowledge required of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10-CM coding, HIPAA transaction standards, various claim forms, third party contracts and payment patterns, reimbursement regulations and policies of third party payers.
  • Detailed understanding of a managed care environment and its impact on the bottom line.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multi-disciplined projects and multiple people.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Working knowledge of computerized physician billing systems, extensive experience using Excel, Outlook, and Word.

  • Demonstrated traits of teamwork, cooperation, and positive and enthusiastic role model.

  • Strong professional demeanor with the inherent quality to rapidly establish credibility and rapport with clinicians, managers and external groups.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for process improvement, identify solutions and plan for and implement those same solutions.

  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 20 lbs. (Occasionally)

  • Typing on a keyboard (Frequently)
  • Walking (Frequently)
