Overview of the Role:

Under indirect supervision, the Provider Education Specialist provides documentation and coding education to the Mid-Atlantic Market for Privia Health and readily ensures that communication, education and program process improvement is documented and achieved. This person works closely with the Senior Director, Coding, Audit and Education, along with the Performance Management team.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Interact with physicians and other patient care providers regarding documentation and coding policies, procedures, and regulations; obtains clarification of conflicting, ambiguous, or non-specific documentation
  • Provide Evaluation and Management (E/M), preventive, procedural and risk adjustment documentation and coding training to providers
  • Deliver provider post audit review training and education for providers who fall below threshold
  • Provide specialty documentation and coding training as needed
  • Provide documentation and coding training to internal teams as necessary
  • Research and analyze complex coding issues as assigned
  • Assist in updating and/or developing pertinent presentations, one pagers and quick reference sheets
  • Communicate market documentation and coding issues / concerns to Senior Director in a timely fashion
  • Assist with providing in house Certified Professional Coder Preparation (CPC PREP) classes via webinar
  • Assist Senior Director in identifying relevant documentation and coding education projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate’s Degree or higher preferred
  • Medical coding experience required
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required
  • MS Office Suite, Electronic Medical Records, other software programs and internet based applications as needed to fulfill position duties
  • Flexible schedule and ability to travel
  • A valid unrestricted driver's’ license and a reliable vehicle
  • Must comply with HIPAA and other rules and regulations set forth in compliance plan

Interpersonal Skills & Attributes:

  • Able to have honest, difficult conversations with providers about documentation and code assignment
  • Work effectively with physicians, non-physician practitioners (NPP), practice staff, health plan/other external parties and Privia multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; Express ideas clearly and effectively
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, management, clients and staff
  • Respond calmly and maturely in high pressure situations
  • Keep a positive attitude toward company, work, clients, management, and team members
  • Use a customer focused approach in dealing with conflict and resolution of problems
  • Flexible schedule and ability to travel
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent presentation skills in order to lead trainings for large groups of physicians and executives
