Responsible for applying the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information for data retrieval, analysis and claims processing. This is a work from home, remote position.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

(85%) Diagnostic and Procedure Coding

  • Translates diagnostic and procedural phrases utilized by healthcare providers into coded form
  • Has demonstrated a mastery of accurately coding all Level I modalities, which include:
    • CT, DEXA, Mammography, MRI, Ultrasound, X-ray
  • Performs accurate ICD-10, CPT & HCPCS coding for the following modalities and special procedures:
    • Modalities: Discograms, Evaluation and Management (E&M) Coding, Myelogram, Nuclear Medicine
    • Special Procedures: Arthograms, Aspirations, Biopsies, Sclerotheraphy/Phlebectomy
  • May support coding for additional modalities and procedures
  • Ensures that charges are accurately posted to patient accounts in a timely manner
  • Consistently meets or exceeds documented department productivity and quality metrics.
  • Answers internal & external questions regarding billing and/or coding practices (denied claims; insurance companies, patients)
  • Follows up and corrects denied claims due to coding problems
  • Responsible for correspondence with providers in the market when discrepancies exist in completed exams, services provided, and/or medical necessity requirements
  • Keeps abreast of all coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements
  • Brings identified concerns to supervisor or department manager for resolution

 

(10% ) Team Support

  • Assists team leadership in process improvement projects and other projects as assigned
  • Assists in the training of new coding associates and provides mentoring to existing staff members

 

(5%) Performs other duties as assigned


Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years coding experience
  • CPC, RCC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS-P Coding certification
  • Demonstrated mastery of coding for modalities of a Level I Charge and Coding Specialist
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience
  • Proficient with using computer systems and typing

 

Preferred:

  • 1-2 years Revenue Cycle Management experience
