Inpatient Coding Specialist

This position is responsible for assignment of diagnoses and procedure codes for the billing process and the statistical database. This position is also responsible for routinely tracking the incomplete Medicare records awaiting DRG prompter responses. Responsible for daily maintenance of the unbilled accounts report. Works in conjunction with Corporate Compliance department to assure all coding is based on complete and accurate documentation that is reflective of the patient's medical condition and severity of illness.


  • High School graduate or equivalent required. 
  • Completion of American Health Information Management approved RHIT or RHIA course and or completion of college level courses in anatomy and physiology and related science courses, preferred. 
  • Two (2) years coding experience in an acute care setting. 
  • RHIT, CCS, RHIA or CIC required.

Advanced Coding Specialist
Apply the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes (ICD, CPT and modifiers) to inpatient or outpatient accounts for data retrieval, analysis and claims processing. Queries physicians via the Clinical Coders or Case Managers when needed to improve and clarify documentation on inpatient records.

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • CCS, CIC or CCDS required.
  • RHIA or RHIT certification preferred.
  • Three plus (3) years coding in acute care setting.
