Job Summary: REMOTE
Performs diagnostic and procedural ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding
primarily for inpatient hospital discharges of a medium acuity (all clinical
specialties and LOS). Also responsible for covering inpatient discharges
assigned to Level I in the event of a backlog. Enters demographic, diagnostic
and procedural data into the hospital information system. The output of the Section
is used for financial and billing purposes, to meet licensure requirements,
network quality initiatives, for statistics, and for public hospital and
Minimum Requirements: Associates degree in a
healthcare related field or Coding curriculum to include - Med Terminology,
Anatomy & Physiology, Pathophysiology, ICD-10-CM, CPT and coding
guidelines. Requires AHIMA or AAPC approved coding certification.
3 years acute care coding experience. Requires knowledge of medical
terminology, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS,
DRGs/prospective payment, severity of illness classification, UHDDS
definitions, coding guidelines, and applicable regulatory agency requirements.
Ability to interpret existing documentation and discern when clarification of
documentation may lead to more accurate coding, i.e., more specificity,
reconciliation of ambiguous or conflicting documentation, and appropriate
recording of case mix and patient severity. Requires strong analytical and investigative
skills in order to assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes and to
maintain data integrity. Demonstrated written communication skills required to
convey documentation issues to physicians and other clinicians. Basic computer
skills (windows, medical record and Microsoft Office software, etc.) and basic
knowledge of standard office equipment.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and CCS preferred
Licensure and Certifications: AHIMA or AAPC Certification
