JOB SUMMARY

The Revenue Cycle Administrator (RCA) will work with HealthFirst Bluegrass’ (HFBG) third party Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) vendor, staff and patients to ensure efficient and patient-friendly billing and coding processes. The RCA will support providers and staff with clinical coding in conjunction with the RCM vendor and compliance team. The RCA will present information to stakeholders (e.g. HFBG Management Team), as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

-          Supports processes for billing and coding issues for all clinical services. Emphasis on continuous process improvement.

-          Supports processes for the sliding fee discount program and all patient financial transactions.

-          Manages partnership with third party RCM vendor.

-          Analyzes billing function using data (e.g. rejected and denied claims detail) to produce KPI reports.

-          Assists patients with billing questions and resolves disputes using the internal HFBG Billing Ticketing System (BTS). Coordinates BTS by assigning tickets, finding resolutions and communicating outcomes.

-          Provides excellent service to internal staff on billing and coding issues (e.g. batch corrections, posting errors, and sliding fee discounts).

-          Provides support in the revenue recognition process in conjunction with accounting staff.

-          Processes and distributes mail. Identifies opportunities to make the mail process more effective and efficient (e.g. paper to electronic).

-          Participates in monthly reviews to verify that HFBG employees and third-party vendors are following policies and procedures.

-          Creates presentations on billing and coding trends for diverse audiences. Participates in training and development.

o   Perform audits of patient visits by provider on a routine basis (e.g. appropriateness of CPT codes utilized).

o   Provide provider training as it applies to billing matters and serve as a resource for provider education.

-          Other duties as assigned

 

 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School graduate/GED and 5 years’ experience in a health care clerical or clinical setting which has been in the performance of responsible clerical/clinical duties including accurate data entry OR Associates Degree in closely related field OR completed closely related Certification such as Medical Coding (CPC, CPC-H, CPC-P). Other equivalent combination of related training and experience.

 SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS  

This position requires effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and intermediate computer literacy.

 

  • Operate a computer
    • Basic understanding of the Windows environment
    • Basic understanding of Microsoft Explorer
    • Basic understanding and ability to retain and use Usernames and Passwords daily.
    • Basic computer troubleshooting including checking cable network and power connections.
  • Knowledge of physician office practice operations
  • Knowledge of dental office practice operations
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical operations
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment such as keyboard, scanners, copier, and printers.
  • Ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner with the public and project a positive image of HealthFirst Bluegrass, Inc.
  • Ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner with supervisors and co-workers to accomplish agency objectives and goals.  
  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines
  • If bi-lingual required, incumbent must be able to communicate effectively in a defined non-English language with patients/clients as needed.  
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding systems; Knowledge of billing and or collections from various 3rd party payors

 LANGUAGE SKILLS

 Must possess the ability to read and comprehend technical procedures, or governmental regulations. If bi-lingual required, incumbent must effectively present information in English and a defined non-English language(s) and respond to questions from English and non-English speaking clients, customers, and the general public as needed.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

 

Incumbent must possess the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.

 REASONING ABILITY

 Incumbent must possess the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIION

 Certify as a “kynector” for the state’s health insurance exchange within one month of receiving training invite. Certification requires completing 11 hours of online training through Eastern Kentucky University. Individuals will be allotted work time to complete required training.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The incumbent frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb or balance. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

 WORK ENVIRONMENT

 While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is occasionally exposed to homeless and impoverished community members. At times employees will work with ill patients. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
