We currently have a unique opportunity available for (3) experienced documentation and education leaders in Nashville, TN.  The Sr. Director of Provider Documentation and Education position is a tremendous opportunity for experienced education leaders, in either anesthesia, emergency or hospital medicine.  Strong working knowledge in the operations, revenue excellence and quality programs across these service lines. The Sr. Director of Provider of Documentation and Education is responsible for the daily operation of the Provider Documentation Education Department and staff in the process of educating all providers on appropriate clinical documentation.  Direct the management team and staff, to ensure that provider documentation is as accurate as possible.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·       Responsible for providing leadership and direction to the respective service line provider documentation education program.

·       Oversee the day-to day operations of the service line provider education strategies.

·       Maintain high levels of both written and oral communication with internal departments.

·       Work closely with Service Line RCM offices to help resolve documentation-based issues with clients and providers.

·       Maintains and manages the documentation education process to be able to improve provider documentation.

·       Provides direction on training, communication and provider engagement strategies.

·       Provides constructive feedback to Documentation staff members regarding their performance via daily verbal communication and yearly written reviews.

·       Accountable for meeting the needs of the service line as identified by chart reviews, analytics, and provider outreach conducted by the service line.

·       Provide VP of Provider Documentation and Education for service line KPIs and metrics.

·       Serves as a liaison and subject matter expert to provider leadership, coding, quality, compliance and communication teams at the request of the Vice President.

·       Engages with Site Medical Directors and Senior Vice Presidents in the mission of accurate provider documentation.

·       Provides support and guidance to the Documentation staff when questions and problems arise.

·       Develops and implements new systems and procedures to better enable the Documentation staff members to be able to complete their job duties.

·       Facilitates an atmosphere that fosters teamwork.

·       Implements the policies and procedures for the department.

·       Delegates appropriately to subordinates; communicates expectations clearly and thoroughly regarding all delegated work.

·       Forecasts and anticipates other operating expense needs (e.g., travel, training, and consulting). Makes recommendations to VP regarding operating and capital budgets.

·       Leads initiatives to develop new approaches to streamline existing processes, reorganize work, implement new technologies, and improve resource utilization, with a focus on best cost methods.

·       Mentors employees, conducts performance evaluations, counsels and provides corrective actions to assigned personnel, and works to facilitate individual and team development that drives positive results. Champions affirmative action efforts in all aspects of employment, including but not limited to staffing, training, and promotions. Responsible for compliance with and enforcement of company/department policies and procedures.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

·       Deep knowledge of the rules/regulations of Medicare/Medicaid and other government payors as well as commercial insurers and specialty contracts to ensure accurate and timely billing and payment of claims.

·       Solid understanding of medical insurance industry terminology.

·       In depth experience with payor-specific requirements and guidelines for the Documentation department.

·       Maintains up to date knowledge of HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley and other critical governmental regulations.

·       Possesses strong management principles.

·       Communicates effectively, (both orally and in writing) in English.

·       Conveys thoughts in a well-organized, concise manner. Uses appropriate grammar and punctuation in written documents.

·       Performs in a consistently-organized manner with strong attention to detail.



·       Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Healthcare from a four-year College or University. Master’s degree in Business, Health Care Administration, Health Information Technology Nursing or a related clinical field of study preferred.

·       Five or more years of progressive leadership experience in clinical documentation management.

·       Highly proficient in Professional Coding

·       Demonstrated ability to deploy effective tools required for program success related to communications, analytics, education and training

·       Proven track record of engaging providers in documentation improvement.


Certificates and Licenses

·       Clinical experience preferred.
