Baystate Health’s HIM Department is seeking an Outpatient Coding Supervisor for a full time position.

What You Will Do:

This role is proactive in job completion, highly organized and requires strong interpersonal skills. The Coding Supervisor will be responsible for the daily monitoring of outpatient coding to assure timely coding and billing of all outpatient accts under the responsibility of HIM. This position is also responsible for education of all outpatients coding team members. All tasks need to be performed following the Operating Principles of Baystate Health. 

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the daily workflow of outpatient coding to assure the timely and accurate completion of all records.
  • Communicate with HIM Outpatient Coding Manager on a daily basis regarding any delays in cases in which HIM coders are not processing for completion.
  • Monitor Stockamp financial report on a daily basis and follows up on all cases that are aging or are high dollar.
  • Communicate with HIM Outpatient Coding Manager on a daily basis regarding any external departmental deficiencies to assure prompt completion.
  • Assist coding staff with resolution of questions which arise as a result of coding. Interpret difficult coding questions for coding staff.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the coding process and help in development of new processes in collaboration with the HIM Outpatient Coding Manager.
  • Develop an educational curriculum that will assure satisfactory education and skill development of the coding staff by serving as a resource and mentor to new or less experienced coding personnel. Keeping abreast of new regulations, guidelines and coding changes and distribution to appropriate staff.
  • Required travel to all BHS locations.
  • What You Will Need:

    • Associates degree required. Bachelor’s preferred.
    • CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) certification required.
    • Thorough knowledge of CPT, ICD10-PCS codes, codes, APC’s and APG’s required.
    • Thorough knowledge of all outpatients coding edits, modifiers.
    • Ability to understand numerous Coding and Billing applications.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, to work independently and collectively as part of a team, and to prepare reports.

    What You Need To Know:

    • This is a full time position, 40 hrs per week.
