    Would a biopsy of a lacrimal sac be 88302, 88304, or 88305?

DX: Benign chronically inflamed epithelium and soft tissue

GROSS: Three fragments of pink-tan tissue ranging in size from 0.5 cm to 0.8 cm. Each is up to 0.3 cm. The specimen is totally submitted in one block.

    Micro has been performed.

As I'm sure you discovered, CPT gives no specific guidance for choosing the correct code. Padget's Pathology Service Coding Handbook likewise gives no instruction for this type of biopsy. Our pathology group codes these as 88304.

Thank you. This is the code we have been using as well, but I wanted to be sure that it is correct.
