I am wondering if anyone else, specifically in general surgery, has a conundrum with this code? It can only be billed with certain debridement codes and an I&D code which never relates to general surgery.
In my three years of coding general surgery, I have discovered that yes, mesh gets infected and it takes a decent amount of work to remove. However, rarely do my surgeon's actually do a debridement - so, we can't use the code.
I just can't help but wonder why this code was designated this way, when the other components are rarely used? And how do you get a code designation changed?
