Thread: ECMO billing

    Default ECMO billing

    AAPC: Back to School
Patient was on ECMO for about a week so the 33960/33961 appropriated codes were billed. Pt was taken off ECMO and remained in hospital for 2 more weeks. Patient was then re-started on ECMO--do we bill the 33960 for the first 24 hrs or do we continue with the 33961?

    Default 33960

My gut reaction is to go with 33960 for the "new" first day ...

    Anybody else?

That was my first reaction too after being asked this question. Then after I thought about it I started to second guess myself and ended up here

    I would appreciate any input...thanks
