Default coding for removal/reinsertion of SCS

    AAPC: Back to School
just a quick question, had a physician remove & reinsert spinal cord stimulator Im looking @ 65650, 63650-59. other sources are telling me to code for the removal? Wouldn't the removal be inclusive for the reinsert, since in order to reinsert you would have to remove first?

Thanks in advance for your help

You should bill with code 63685 for the replacement of the spinal cord stimulator.

If the leads were replaced, you would use 63650 for each lead.

If the pulse generator was replaced, you would use 63685.

It was the leads that were replaced. Thanks for your reply just needed some reassurance.
