Follow Up Visits

  1. Question Follow Up Visits
    Medical Coding Books
Your patient was treated either in your office, in the emergency department or was admitted to the hospital for an illness (ex: bronchitis or pneumonia). The patient was given a follow up with you for this illness, however, at the follow up visit the illness has been resolved. The patient has no other medical issues to be addressed. What code (s) would you use?

  2. #2
    Seacoast- Dover New Hampshire
I would use the reason for the initial visit. As this visit is a f/u for bronchitis and now is resolved.

  3. Default Resolved
Please see the following for guidance:
See ICD-9 coding guidelines-page 17, #8 under the heading *Follow-up* for coding resolved conditions.
