Sequelae

    Hello,

Can anyone help and advise how to code a Sequelae.

I have a situation where the patient had a patellar dislocation and on follow up the diagnosis is "Sequelae from patellar dislocation with tear medical patellofemoral ligament and medial retinaculum".

So do I code the Patellar Dislocation with an S on the end or just code the MPFL and Medial Retinaculum? (these do not have the option to put an S on the end of the code)

    Thank you,
    LLR

Your original diagnosis (patellar dislocation) would be your secondary diagnosis, and yes use the "S" for 7th digit. Your primary diagnosis would be the new problem (tear medical patellofemoral ligament and medial retinaculum).
