Default Assistant surg modifier for phys assit?

    AAPC: Back to School
If the assistant surgeon is a physician assistant not a surgeon is there a modifier for this? Is there any way the physician assit can be reimbursed for this? Please Advise.

Even if it is not a surgeon but a physician assitant? Can they be reimbursed for their part?

    Thank you for your response!

Yes so long as an assistant is allowed on that particular procedure and, if applicable, documentation clearly shows the need for an assistant.

Some of my payors also want the 81 modifier, check with your payors for their preference.
