    Question Acute Fracture Care

    AAPC: Back to School
Patient comes in with foot pain 2-3 months after haivng trauma to foot.
X-ray shows a fracture that has started to heal improperly--nonunion. Physician corrects via surgery..bills out CPT 27726 for repair of the nonunion. Can CPT 27792 (Open tx of distal fibual fx...) also be billed as physician did nothing to fx prior? Any thoughts? Thanks

My advice is no, you can have one or the other but not both. Check your documentation to see which code is best supported.
