Default ER Consult One Specialty, Admitted to Another Specialty

    AAPC: Back to School
Patient is in ER and the Er doc is requesting a consult from a Cardiologist. Later the patient is admitted into Critical Care. Does the consult done in the ER get billed as -241-245 or -251-255 because the patient was later admitted and the dates of service for the hospital inpatient won't match with the outpatient consult code? (inpt POS for that DOS, but outpt consult code?)

    Default Outpatient Consult

If the consultation was done in the ER ... outpatient consult with POS 23.

Alternatively ... if the patient was that ill, perhaps the cardiologist provided critical care? Is time documented?
