providers signing for providers

  1. Default providers signing for providers
    New Call-to-action
I am in need of some answers. I have a client that has a provider who has other providers either see his patients or scribes for him. Either way documentation is not clear in the progress notes for coding. I have asked the client to have the provider make an addendum to the notes in question and for whatever reason they will not do this. The client feels that the progress note should be coded the way it stands and my office was told that this clinic works as a team and under one tax ID. I need to know if another doctor (under the same group and Tax ID) can sign for the performing physician and if so, is it necessary to put “on behalf of” or something similar. Also where would i find this information. The client wants regulations in black and white. PLEASE HELP !!

Default Only thing I can offer you is the following...
Back when I first entered the medical field and was full of optimism my first two jobs were for a five person nephrology practice and three person urology practice.

There were times due to the nature of the field they were practicing in that patient was seen by someone who wasn't their regular provider (E.G. Vacation, Cath issues for Dialysis patients). Each time, the provider's medical records stated the following: "1) Patient is followed by Dr. X who is (insert reason). Because of that I am seeing patient today. 2) My notes will be sent to Dr. X for their review."

Regarding if they can bill or not..?

    Hope this helps
