Our ENT practice is looking for feedback from anyone with experience using an internal tasking system for inpatient facility charge capture. Currently, when our physicians perform hospital consultations and/or subsequent procedures, our tasking system is used to notify coders of billable charges. Our process does not work well, however, because it results in different coders accessing the same inpatient charts on overlapping hospital dates. We realize this is not a good allocation of resources and are looking for information on how other practices assign coding responsibilities. In some practices, coders are assigned based on alphabetical parameters; others have dedicated inpatient and outpatient only coders. In our practice, physicians are assigned to a respective coder which isnít working optimally either. Does anyone have a system that works to eliminate this problem? Thank you.
