complete vs incomplete colonoscopy

    Question complete vs incomplete colonoscopy
    Medical Coding Books
In the past we have coded a colonoscopy as complete if the dr. goes beyond the splenic flexure. However, we are now being told that we must use a modifier if the dr. does not reach the cecum. CPT definition of 45378 says PROXIMAL to splenic flexure so I am confused. Has anyone else run into this? How are you coding?

Please try the National Government Services link below, it's a supplemental article to the colonosopy LCD. It may be helpful...
