    New Call-to-action
    hello,
I am looking for a pulmonary vascular congestion code. After researching I found out that two different codes can be used: R91.8 and J81.1.
    which one is correct?
    thank you,

    My SelectCoder suggests:

R91.8 - Other nonspecific abnormal finding of lung field

    Clarifying Terms
Lung mass NOS found on diagnostic imaging of lung
    Pulmonary infiltrate NOS
    Shadow, lung

    J81.1 - Chronic pulmonary edema

    Clarifying Terms
    Pulmonary congestion (chronic) (passive)
    Pulmonary edema NOS
-However this code is an add-on code, meaning you will need another code to match

    Use Additional Code (J81)
    code to identify:
exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (Z77.22)
    history of tobacco dependence (Z87.891)
occupational exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (Z57.31)
    tobacco dependence (F17.-)
    tobacco use (Z72.0)

I'm thinking J81.1 with an additional Z or F17 code as suggested above.

Thank you so much for clarification,
