I would appreciate any input regarding the following situation:
Patient presented to office with severe allergic reaction after eating frozen berries. Swelling of face, lips, etc, complaints of throat swelling as well. Internist immediately evaluated her and ordered administration of EpiPen that we keep in office for emergencies such as this. He gave two auto-injectors of EpiPen along with 2 cc of Kenalog and Benadryl.

My thinking is that we simply bill the proper level of E & M along with the medications. The problem is that the EpiPen costs over $100 each and the only code I find for Epipen is J0170 which will pay only $1-2. PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm not sure what to tell you the reimbursement of your meds, besides trying to submit the invoice for the drug and explain what your cost is.

Besides billing for the E&M and meds plus injections you may want to look at 99058 if it applys to the visit. Reimbursement may not be alot ,but it something.
