Removal of Hardware and placement of femoral rod

  1. Default Removal of Hardware and placement of femoral rod
    Medical Coding Books

I am coding a removal of metal plate and screws and placement of retrograde femoral rod. The code I have is 20680-for the removal of the hardware, However, is there a code for the placement of the femoral rod?, or is this included? Thanks!

was this a malunion or nonunion? if so look at 27470 (removal of hardware will not be seperately reportable)

It was a femoral shaft FX. The physician replaced the plate with a intramedullary rod. I spoke with the physcian and he verified 27506 as the PX performed. Thanks for checking!
