    Question Another Question

    AAPC: Back to School
Can someone help me with this question from a fellow coder who is not a member of this forum. Thanks so much!

Ques: When I (Dr. Apple) write an obs admission code it is the accepting physician who writes an order to change it to full admission. If I am writing a full admission code and the accepting physician writes an order to change it to a obs admission, then it seems to me that the responsibility to change the billing code belongs to the person writing the order.

Why am I being asked to change my original admission codes based on changes made through the accepting physician?

Are they in the same group and this was all done on the same day?

CPT states " Evaluation and management services on the same date provided in sites that are related to the admission "Observation status" should not be reported separately."

This is listed under both Initial Observation Care and Initial Hospital Care.
