    Question Bmi >40

    AAPC: Back to School
Is anyone billing extra if a patient's BMI is over 40? Are you using a modifier? And finally are you being reimbursed higher? Thank you for any input.

Are you talking about billing extra for surgical procedures and deliveries?

If so, you can try, but unless the documentation clearly reflects all of the extra work, difficulty and any complications that were caused due to the BMI you won't be paid. Weight/BMI alone are not a basis for additional reimbursement.
