consult on an observation

    Default consult on an observation
    Medical Coding Books
    I finally think I have the doctors understanding that this is an outpatient place of service. But now they want to know how to bill dialysis which they say they do during observations. They say it is an inpatient procedure. My hair is getting gray, that is what I haven't pulled out!

    Dialysis is not my area of expertise but below is CMS' link that lists all the "inpatient services only" ...which are indicated with a payment indicator of "C"...

    Addendum E

    If it's on this list, it must be performed as an inpatient service.

    Thank you I never knew this existed. The CMS site is like going to New York City, around every corner there's something new!
