    Can i assign 042 code if the patient doesn't have any symptoms but his CD4 count is less than 200?

    you can assign 042 only if the physician states HIV positive as symptomatic in the documentation. A coder may assign a dx based on a lab result.

    i am sorry I meant to say a coder may NOT assign a dx based on a lab. My bad, headcold got in the way.
