Hospitalist charges for ip procedures

  1. Question Hospitalist charges for ip procedures
    Clearnace Sale
The hospital where I work is now going to be doing the billing for the hospitalists instead of outsourcing. The question has come up concerning if we can bill for certain procedures that the hospitalist orders but the nursing staff perform - such as foleys, nasogastric tubes, etc. The hospital will be billing a facility charge for those procedures but should there be a hospitalist charge also? If allowed, where is that info in black and white?

The hospitalist can only bill those procedures that they have personally performed, not that they have ordered. The hospitalist gets points towards determining what level they will charge when they order tests. The facility fee includes the reimbursement for the nursing performance.
