Default Question US Guidance Needle Biopsy?
    Medical Coding Books
What codes would you use when you are coding an US Guidance Needle Biopsy of the Thyroid with two separate nodules and 2 needle passes into each lesion? And can you tell me the difference between 10022 and 11100 used with 11101? Thanks so much!!

Just bumping up so I might get some help, thanks.

Our rads usually use 10022 with 76942-26 for FNA of thyroid with US guidance. FNA is removal of cells through a needle and is sent for cytologic evaluation. A biopsy can also be through a needle, but the sample is tissue and sent for histologic evaluation.

You would add a -59 to 10022 for the second lesion and we use -76 for the guidance on the second lesion. This is assigned per lesion, and not by number of passes.

Sorry, can't help with other codes.

Thanks, that is how we do it as well. For purposes of studying for my CPC exam I was wondering the difference of the code 11100 and 11101. What situation would this be used in? Thanks.

Usally these codes are billed when a patient has a biopsy done on a skin lesion.
