Default same group, 2 diff specialties

    AAPC: Back to School
I have a question, we bill for a group of cardiologists and also have pediatric intensivists, same tax number. If the intensivists bill for lets say, Critical Care 99291, and then they request a consult from one of the cardiologists in the same group, and they both bill for same dx, should we had a modifier on the consult? Is this still considered concurrent care if it's the same group practice?

    Thank you,

    Default Two different specialites

Physicians of two different (recognized) specialties in the same practice can each bill independently of one another.

No you would not bill with any modifier. You would bill those sepatately. Physicians that are different specialties but are within the same group, under the same tax Id#, are considered separate and can bill independently. Just as long as your physicians are documenting correctly, if Dr. A in your group, request for a consult from Dr. B who is a different speciality, you may bill a consult.

    Hope that helps
