    Default radiology coding

    AAPC: Back to School
I have a question about radiology coding for ct scan abdomen and pelvis, I am trying to appeal a denial and they paid on code 72194 and denied code 74170 saying it is incidental to code 72194. I am new to trying to understand radiology coding and want to know if there is a code that covers both areas, or how do I go about appealing this denial.

CT of the abdomen and pelvis would be reported with the codes shown...Are they flat out denying payment for the CT of the abdomen or simply indicating that the payment for both are combined into a single payment (i.e. composite APC)....

The Medicare LCD (NGS) for CT scans list CT Abd & Pelv together; sharing the same ICD-9 diagnosis codes for medical necessity.

Was the denial based on documentation?

    Hope this helps,
