Default Smoking Cessation w/ Inpatient E/M

Is anyone using Smoking Cessation with Inpatient E/M?

Great question! I'm curious about smoking cessation and an outpatient E/M visit. If the patient comes in for let's say diabetes and the provider also does smoking cessation, do you code both, or is the smoking cessation included in the E/M?

    Default Yes

This is from the CMS LCD.

Intermediate and intensive smoking cessation counseling services will be covered for outpatient and hospitalized beneficiaries who are smokers and who qualify as above, as long as those services are furnished by qualified physicians and other Medicare-recognized practitioners.
