Thread: Takken the CPC exam? How many passed the 1st try?

  1. #131

    Default took the CPC today

    AAPC: Back to School
I certainly hope that I passed, but I must say that they ABC practice exams helped me a little bit but not that much. I was suprised by some of of the content on the exam that was not covered in these modules.

I think that the success rate depends on the exam prep. Of the 15 certified coders in this department, only two did not pass the first try. Most of us took the PMCC course through the AAPC and felt very comfortable with the examination, and passed the first time. One of the coders who did not pass, did not take the PMCC course, but did take a coding/billing course at a local community college. Also, most of the coders had at least 2+ years experience in billing/coding before sitting for the exam. I think that both factors (experience and prep through the AAPC course) contributed to everyone's success.
I am very new to this field I'm in advertising and I'm trying to transition to the Health Industry. I took the whole course for billing/coding at York I took the CBCS and pass which was very easy, now comes the hard one the CPC I took it once and fail, and I am trying to take it again you mentioned in your email about taking the PMCC course what course is that please advise

I took, and passed, the first time. I did not take any courses before taking the exam but had two years coding experience @ that point.
    Good luck!

I found out earlier than usual this last time - on the Thursday after the test...The last 2, I found out on the Friday after the test. Always a good day!

I have test anxiety and I passed the first time. I took the test on a Friday and my results were online Wednesday! It is so nice that they put the results online, cuts the waiting time! I know many who have been certified for several years and they had to wait for the snail-mail letter!

    Smile Exam Suggestions

I took the exam on Jan 29th and passed. I used several past exams to study from, and of course the text book. I have no coding experience, but have investigated medical claims for most of my 22 yr career at State Farm. I know if I had skipped around in the exam to complete the section I was more comfortable with, rather than just going "1-150" I woudn't have had time to finish all the questions. The easier section was toward the end.

    Best of Luck to you
