    Default Risk Table and MDM

    AAPC: Back to School
In coding an outpatient visit, if the Nurse Practioner prescribes a medication in addition to over the counter remedies, does this suggest the Risk of Complications would be Moderate? (The Table of Risk indicates the HIGHEST level in one area determines overall risk and the prescription drug management falls into moderate)

Yes, you use the highest level.

    Thanks Adrienne-
would the same hold true if no OTC drugs were recommended-just a prescription?

Any prescription medication would qualify for Moderate risk.
If only OTC, than Low risk
    Hope this helps
