Question can you bill for an H&P if a full E&M is rendered?

    AAPC: Back to School
This is a question for all the coders out there. One of the physicians in the practice I work for is doing a full E&M on all of his H&P patients prior to surgery. This is not just bringing the patient in to fill out paperwork for surgery. He is reviewing lab work and doing a full workup on the patient as required by the hosptial. He is wondering if can he bill this out as and E&M even though the decision for surgery took place prior to this visit. Currnetly these visits are being no-charged as an H&P for surgery.

Default He is already being paid

He is already being paid for this service. It is part of the reimbursement for the surgery he will perform.

    No additional charge.

that's what I thought. I will explain it to him again that it is part of the surgical package.
