Pt is 3 wks status post closed reduction & percutaneous pinning of the neck of the rt. 5th metacarpal. Pt. is in for f/u and the Dr. is removing the pin (in office) and putting gutter splint back on. This is a 90 day global for this. Dr. circled Pin/Wire removal and short arm splint along w/ x-rays on the superbill. Can these be charged or are they still under the global.

Default Splinting yes; pin removal no
Procedures are always billable in the post-operative period - visits are not.

HOWEVER ... 20670 requires an incision to access the "superficial" hardware. If the physician was able to remove the pin/screw/wire without any incision then there is no procedure performed.

    Oh, and don't forget your modifier(s) ... probably -58.

    Hope that helps.
