Telephone assessment

    Exam Training Packages
    Does anyone use CPT code 98966 and receive reimbursement for it. Any thoughts on billing it?

    I have had a couple of folks say they received around $10 for it. You must have good documentation and all the rules have to be met. That is the 7 day rule the patient must be the one that initiates the contact and the qualified healthcare person is the one talking to the patient etc.

    What about if the patient initiates the contact, but they have to leave a message and the provider or the qulaified healthcare person calls them back? Is this still meeting the criteria for this code?

    That is my understanding. The patient calls and requests to speak to provider or nurse and must leave a message for the person to call back. This is the patient initiating the contact.
    To contrast if the provider called the patent then the patient returns the call but provider cannot come to the phone so the patient leaves a message to return the call, since the original contact came from the provider this does not meet the criteria.
