    Default Family Practice vs Hospitalist

    AAPC: Back to School
Patient was seen in the office by family practice and later was admitted to the hospital by the hospitalist...both are from the same physicians billing group with the same tax id#. Can they both bill an e/m?

Was it for the same diagnosis? If the Hospitalist is not credentialed as an FP, you should be able to bill for both. Our Hospitalists are credentialed as IM so it is a different specialty. If the admit was for something different than the patient saw the FP for, then you should also be able to bill both.
