Default Psychologist working with a psych student: what is billable?

A psychologist sees a patient with a psych student (has an MA working towards a PhD or PsyD, not licensed). Is this a billable event to an insurance company when:
    1. The psychologist is present 100% in the room and directs the actions of the student and develops the treatment plan?
    2. The psychologist is present 100% in the next room behind a one way mirror and directs the actions of the student and develops the treatment plan?

    I appreciate your input. Thanks!

It is sometimes difficult to weigh in on how third-party insurers might handle these situations. They can develop their own policies, regardless of what the rest of the industry is doing.

However, please note that for Medicare, it is inappropriate to bill for services rendered by a student (this would include those "directed" by an Attending, but performed by a student). See the link below.

    Something to keep in mind.
